NDIS Funding Guide for Adaptive Clothing

Using Your NDIS Funding for Adaptive Clothing

At Comvi, we design adaptive clothing specifically for wheelchair users and the good news is that many of our products may be claimable through your NDIS plan. This guide explains how NDIS funding works for adaptive clothing and how to make a claim with us.

Can I Use NDIS Funding for Adaptive Clothing?

Adaptive clothing that supports your daily living and independence can often be funded through the NDIS. Comvi's range of adaptive pants, jeans, and shorts are designed with features that directly address the functional needs of wheelchair users, including but not limited to:

  • Seam free backs — reducing pressure injury risk during extended seated use
  • Elastic waistbands — supporting independence in dressing and reducing interference with tubing or stomas
  • Extended fly and catheter access — designed for easier catheter management
  • Pull up loops — assisting with dressing for those with limited dexterity or upper limb function
  • Hook and loop fly closures — ideal for participants with limited hand function
  • Accessible pockets — positioned for easy reach from a seated position

These features align with NDIS funding criteria for items that support daily living, reduce the risk of injury, and promote independence.

Which NDIS Budget Category Applies?

Comvi's adaptive clothing most commonly falls under the following NDIS support categories:

  • Consumables (Core Supports) — Low cost everyday items that support your daily living needs. Adaptive clothing with functional modifications is often claimable here.
  • Low Cost Assistive Technology (AT) — Items under $1,500 that assist with daily tasks. Clothing with specific adaptive features (e.g., catheter access, dressing aids) may qualify.
  • Daily Activities (Core Supports) — If your plan includes support for daily living activities, adaptive clothing that helps you dress independently may be covered.

Note: NDIS funding decisions are made by your planner or support coordinator based on your individual plan. We recommend checking with your plan manager or NDIS planner to confirm eligibility for your specific situation.
